As part of the task and commitment to generate a space for academic and artistic improvement, which contributes to the exchange of knowledge and practices of the oboist performer, aimed at both the professional instrumentalist and the university student, with special emphasis on the preparation of repertoire for competitions, auditions, exams, concerts and recitals., GRANABIA, SA DE C.V. invites all those oboist experts and students to the OBOE COURSE AND CONTEST «GRANABIA» 2021.

The course will be held via Zoom, for 4 days, in a space of 4 hours a day.

Distinguished oboists from the international community will collaborate with the participation of students, after audition and acceptance, to carry out a course with master classes, a contest, a recital, and a discussion, with the Professors:

Rafael Palacios has been professor of historical and chamber music at the National Superior Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris; Professor of orchestral repertoire at the Real Conservatory of Brussels; Professor of oboe at the Superior Conservatory of the Music of Oviedo. In 1996 he received the “Title of Superior Professor of Oboe” from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Spain
He collaborated with the musicians and the music orchestras of most of our admirers: Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Jordi Savall, Ton Koopman. With the modern oboe he has collaborated as main oboe with: Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Israel Sinfonietta.

Bram Nolf (Belgium)

PROFESSOR

He was educated at the conservatories of Ghent, Rotterdam and Paris. His main teachers were Paul Beelaerts, Emanuel Abbühl and David Walter.

He was a central member of the Collegium Instrumentale Brugense, I Fiamminghi, I Solisti del Vento, Emanon, Il Novecento, Netherlands Ballet. Flanders Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra. Together with four colleagues from the National Orchestra, he forms “5 Beaufort”, a quintet of wind instruments dedicated to the great work of the quintet, with special attention to Belgian composers. In 2008, the University of Newcastle Australia asked him to participate in a research project on the construction of the oboe reed.

PROFESSOR

Francesco Di Rosa is considered by the public and critics as one of the best oboists on the international scene, currently holding the role of 1st oboe in the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia. He studied with Luciano Franca and Maurice Bourgue, from 1994 to 2008 he was 1st oboe of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim.

Second prize in the Zurich oboe competition «Jugendmusik Wettbewerb 1988», he played in the most prestigious concert halls in the world and was conducted by the most famous conductors, Abbado, Giulini, Chailly, Gatti, Boulez, Sawallisch, Pretre, Maazel, Metha, Gergiev and Chung.

    1.  Choose three works from the repertoire proposed below and record one movement of each.

    2.  The video must be recorded in mp4 / mov format, with Full-HD definition / Preferably 4k definition, with a single shot and without editing.

    CONTEST and AWARD for Interpretive Excellence Granabia 2021

     

    Students who wish, may use their audition video for the selection committee to take it into account to compete for the Award for Interpretive Excellence Granabia 2021. This virtual contest will take place during the week of the clinic under the following:

    DESCRIPTION

    Award for Interpretive Excellence Granabia 2021 by delivering a video of participation with the works mentioned below.

    CONTESTANTS

    All those registered in the “Course and Contest of Oboe Granabia 2021 can participate.

    PLACE

    The awards will be held on the last day of the «Granabia 2021 Oboes Course and Contest» that will be held via virtual platforms, from May 17th to 21st, 2021.

     

    INSCRIPTION

    Registration can be done from March 15th, 2021 online, through the website www.granabia.com in which participants will upload their data, CV and link for their videos.

    The videos must be sent with the technical specifications described above and must include the following repertoire:

     1.  W.A. Mozart: Concerto for oboe in C Major KV 314, 1st movement with cadence.

    2.  R. Strauss: Concerto for oboe, 1st movement

    3.  G. F. Telemann: Sonata in G minor 1st and 2nd movements.

    SELECTION PROCESS

     

    Once the minimum requirements of each video have been validated, they will be evaluated by a selection committee consisting of international oboist experts. This selection committee will select 4 applications that meet the aforementioned requirements for form and content and that obtain a score equal to or greater than 80%. The four best candidates selected by the Evaluation Committee will be considered as «FINALISTS». FINALIST status will also imply admissibility as an active student of the course. 

    The Evaluation Committee will choose up to four candidates who, according to their criteria, have the best proposal, which will go on to the final stage of the contest as «NOMINEES». The publication of the «NOMINEES» will take place on April 30, 2021 on the website www.granabia.com. 

    The «NOMINEES» may be required to present a support to the Evaluation Committee, in case the Committee so requires, said presentation will be in video format and made by the candidate. It must meet technical characteristics similar to those of the application video. The purpose of said support will be to provide elements to the Evaluation Committee to better recognize the candidate’s artistic proposal. The members of the Committee may request to interview the candidate. 

    If required, the nominees must submit their videos on the dates determined by the Evaluation Committee. 

    After these presentations, the Evaluation Committee will choose the winning works. The decision of the Committee, as well as the selection of finalists and nominees, will be final.

    JURY

    The Jury will be made up of Messrs. Francesco Di Rosa, Bram Nolf and Rafael Palacios.

     

    AWARDS

    The prizes will consist of an acknowledgment in a public ceremony carried out via virtual, to the winners, as well as incentives in kind, supplies for making reeds and Oboe accessories) distributed as follows:

    1st Prize

    Oboe supplies and Accessories with a market value equivalent to 225 EUR that the selection committee will agree with the winner. 

    2nd Prize

    Oboe supplies and Accessories with a market value equivalent to 113 EUR that the selection committee will agree with the winner. 

    3rd Prize

    Oboe supplies and Accessories with a market value equivalent to 57 EUR that the selection committee will agree with the winner.

    The expenses of sending documents and prizes for both the Qualifying Jury, as well as the winners, derived from the activities of contest or the award, will be fully covered by the organizing committee. Likewise, the list of winners will be published on the website www.granabia.com

    RECORDINGS AND INTERVIEWS

    The interviews and / or recordings derived from the contestant selection process (selection of nominees and winners) may be broadcast and edited for educational, promotional and marketing purposes by the organizer. Granabia, S.A. de C.V. reserves the right to select excerpts from the recordings of nominees and winners for the production of Magnetic / Digital Media (DVD / CD / Podcasts). Nominees will receive recordings of their classes / performances. Said recordings may under no circumstances be distributed in any way without the prior consent of the Organizing Committee. 

    Prize winners waive any and all rights to audio / video recordings, as well as radio / television / internet broadcasts or broadcasts of public sessions determined by the Organizing Committee.
